Yama - Lab Manager
About Yama
Yama is tackling the greatest challenge of our time: Climate Change. Our mission is to congrubte removing 1 billion tons of CO2 by 2050 through the development of the most energy-efficient and scalable Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology.
DAC is essential to limit global warming to 1.5°C, but current technologies are resource-intensive and unsustainable at scale. At Yama, we’ve innovated a game-changing approach that integrates two CO2 desorption technologies, breaking through thermodynamic and kinetic barriers to enable scalable and affordable CO2 removal.
Founded in May 2023, Yama is a Delaware-incorporated spinout from Deep Science Ventures, supported by the Grantham Foundation and backed by top-tier US and EU investors. Based in Paris, France, our leadership team—CEO Aurélie Gonzalez and CTO Valentin Fougerit—are driving this bold climate mission forward.
Join us to help build a tech-driven solution to save the planet.
The Role: Lab Manager
Yama is looking for a Lab Manager to contribute within the R&D team in the development of its DAC technology.
The role will be actively leading/operating the analytical services and conducting experimental work on DAC setups in cooperation with the R&D team. Over time and after knowledge transfer, the role will grow and further develop into the Experimental Methods across the entire lab R&D.
Critical to the role will be common sense, hands on operation, organization, and maintaining safety.
Concretely, you will be in charge of:
Operate, maintain analytical instruments (e.g. Total C/N, NMR, LC/MS) and develop robust methods for R&D use.
Support R&D scientists in designing, assembling, and operating experimental setups.
Contribute running and troubleshooting lab- and bench-scale systems (absorption units, electrochemical cells).
Develop and standardize new experimental methods in coordination with the R&D team.
Ensure the quality, reproducibility, and reliability of experimental data across all lab work.
Maintain a safe, clean, and productive lab environment.
Manage lab logistics: stock of chemicals, consumables, and procurement.
This role works closely with R&D scientists and external partners. You will report to the R&D Lead and interface regularly with the CTO.
Key Responsibilities
Fast, reliable analytical services enabling rapid iteration in R&D.
Clear, up-to-date experimental protocols ensuring reproducibility across experiments.
Strong execution in experiment design and data generation.
Progressive leadership over lab-wide experimental methods and quality standards.
What you bring
Experiences:
Master’s or associate’s (BTS, DUT) degree in Process Technology, (Analytical or Organic) Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field.
Experience with wet chemistry laboratory work and sample analysis (NMR, titration, pH/conductivity measurements, chromatography).
Deep understanding of acid-base chemistry and chemical equilibria is a must.
Experience following laboratory health and safety protocols.
Experience of working with pressurised setups and/or chemical engineering experience is a plus.
Skills:
2-5 years of experience in a wet lab, conducting operations on lab or pilot set-ups. For an excellent applicant, we can consider 0-2 years of experience.
Fundamentals of analytical chemistry: quantitative sample preparation and analysis of solution components using NMR, liquid/gas chromatography, IR, UV-Vis, MS, or TIC/TN.
Some experience in troubleshooting experimental setups, from a chemical or engineering point of view.
Fluent in English; French is a strong advantage.
Capacity to work in France already.
Mindset
Collaborative and team-oriented, with a genuine capacity to listen and support others.
Solution- and results-driven, with a sense of service to the team and mission.
Humble yet ambitious—ready to challenge yourself, empower others, and lead by example.
Proactive, resourceful, and comfortable with uncertainty and change.
